How busy are you?
We are always busy. So much so that we operate a waiting list for getting a gearbox repaired/rebuilt. Please get in touch for up to date information regarding current lead times.
Do you supply exchange gearboxes?
Basically no, as good used gearboxes are generally no longer available, we cannot offer an exchange service, we fix yours so you are paying only for the work required to repair and/or modify your vehicles box or another one that you may supply
How much does a full rebuild cost ?
Full rebuild costs from £850 for a 4 speed, £950 for a 5 speed and £1250 for a Syncro gearbox. Front differential rebuild for a Syncro from £550.
- Supply and fit – oiling plates £85
- Sleeving the relay lever shaft bore £45
- Supply and fit – our steel gasket for main shaft bearing retention £75
- Shipping is from around £55 each way depending on location.
- Prices include VAT.
How can i pay for the work ?
We ask for a deposit for £350 by bank transfer (or cash in person) when the gearbox comes in. Once the box is stripped and the internals cleaned and inspected we can give you a more accurate costing for the rebuild, though where we are buying in specific parts from abroad this will only be a guide as the cost of parts will depend on currency fluctuations.
We can also give you a shopping list for parts so you can buy the parts direct from suppliers like Brickwerks where you may have a club discount so you can spread the cost and be sure that you are getting the best price on those parts
Final payment is due when the rebuild is complete and ready for return to the customer.
Paying via PayPal is possible, but you will have to cover the additional costs; Friends and Family type payment should not be used for this business service.
My gearbox is broken, can it be fixed ?
It is difficult to say for certain as it depends on the damage, generally most boxes can be fixed but it may not always economical to do so. We can undertake the strip down and then advise on our findings and likely costs so the customer can then make an informed decision.
How long will the rebuild take ?
Provided that the major parts are in a good reusable condition then we aim to turn your box around in 14 to 20 working days. We find that in most cases now the gearbox casing itself requires some machining and this work is carried elsewhere, and the additional time allowed for. We will keep you as informed as possible throughout the process.
Can changes be made to the gearbox during rebuild, for example fitting a different gear ratio ?
Yes, a lot of our work is for customer’s making changes to their vehicle, different engines, conversion to camper, fitting bigger tyres etc. It is advisable to consider the future use of the gearbox and to incorporate any planned changes into the rebuild work.
If for some reason we do not have stock or you have sourced your own parts we will happily fit them provided they are suitable and of good quality and make any other changes required, for example; Petrol to diesel – Fit alternative bell housing and/or input shaft.
