Hi Aidan, I completely understand but what a loss to us T25ers :-(( You should have a financial contribution facility, seriously! I’d contribute for your time.
If you do get a moment, would you mind calling me for no more than a two minute chat regarding the four speed gearbox that I bought to replace my five speed. (I think you will remember)
Many regards… Lloyd. (you bought my five speed box off Ebay)
Hi Adian,
Have a great holiday.
When you get back can you give me a quote for an AAP repair. Mine has started whining or rather gergaling.
Still runs fine but unsure of damage that has been done.
Hi Aidan, I appreciate you are not taking on extra work, I suffer from the same issues as you!.
However I have a t25 I have just put an AFN in chipped and fly by wire with a strong 120bhp. And guess what, I’m running out of gearing. What would you recommend? I have a five speed (I’ll check code) but could do with a taller top gear. Are you able to supply a kit that I can install. I have no issue doing the job myself I just need parts.
dear aidan could you please send me a note when you may be able to have a look at my gearbox I am still getting metal fillings on drain plug after 2 rebuilds by beargears yours hopefully colin
Hi Aidan ,
Just wanted to say it’s was great to have met you on the t3 greenlaning weekend in Wales back April , get that backlog polished off and enjoy a holiday or two . Hopefully see you again at future events

If you are able in the future , my 5th gear has broken and can’t find anyone to re build it
Hi. Hope you’re getting back on track. I have a front diff that needs help. Bearings are poorly, loads of play in them. Have been told the crown was a bit worn (wasn’t the excessively noisy). Am very concerned on a future build cost but would like to plan this As I have the diff off is it at all possible I could at least pop down to you (I’m not that far away) and you can give me an opinion. My mechanic said he wouldn’t mind taking it on the the tool to get to the bearings is like £150. Any help would be appreciated. Sorry to bother you. John
Dear Aidan,
Do you have a rough idea if / when you will be able to take in more work? I have a T25 5 speed transmission that is running but a little noisy and would like it rebuilt if possible (before it deteriorates too badly). I’m pretty sure the transmission code is ASM (1.9 DG engine). I can deliver and collect the unit whenever suits and am in no particular hurry. If you can’t do it for the forseeable, no worries – just let me know if that’s ok.
My number is 07971 108660 if you need to call.
Cheers,
Vince
Hi,
Will you be opening up shop again?
Pretty keen for you to have my gearbox to re-build and modify (Peloquin diff).
Hi Aiden are you taking new work yet? .stef.
Hi Aidan. Hoping you are ok. Being self employed I know what it’s like to not be able to get off the hamster wheel!
I’ve got a broken abn box out of my t25 and having looked all over the net – you are the man I want to sort it. Drop me a line when you are up to it.
Best regards
Matt
Hi there. Are you any closer to taking bookings yet? I want to book in a 5 speed rebuild please. Thanks.
hi Aidan,
can you let me know when your back in business as i have a t25 syncro box which may need attention.
regards
COLM
Hi Aidan,
We spoke about you building me a five speed with updated fifth gear and a 4.14 diff last year and because of delays we agreed to leave it until after the summer for the build?
As the autumn approaches I wonder am I booked in or do we need to set a date?
I have the crown and pinion etc and would be happy to drop them in to you.
Can you just let me know your thoughts please?
Regards
Peter L.
Don’t suppose you’ve got any gearboxes for outright sale? 3H or AAP etc… You can have my 3H in exchange it’s running ok but has a whine in 3rd.

Hello Aidan.
Hope this finds you with your feet up.
http://www.theadventureportal.com/rig-of-the-month-das-mule/
Mule Expedition in Seattle built this van over a period of two years .. and they had adventures in it before selling it to me. It is a truly awesome build, amazing syncro to which I have had additional work done, Switch Pro system, Kanz field kitchen set-up, short shifter, water filtration system, rack etc etc .. I leave end of year to take my son and Ania on a two year crazy adventure.
If you do get back into accepting work I’d love for you to rebuild and introduce stronger components to the gearbox/tran. If possible this side of 2019, if not then Easter 2019 .. If you are unable to I understand, rest and work and life in balance.

Are you taking on work yet? cheers

Hi Aiden, I Hope by now you’ve had a long holiday and are getting through your back log of gearboxes. My Story (not a technical question ) is I have lost faith in searching for a second hand gearbox for my T25 2.1 dj injection 1989 which I have had now for 18 years and cannot give her up now, especially after being done on line for £420 for a second hand gearbox that never arrived and the bank could not chase the crook for the money back. Im almost 70 and yes have patience and were wondering when possibly you would be taking on new orders for a rebuild.I have watched you on u tube and really do not want anybody else to do dealings with. If there is anybody you could recomend me to I would be most gratefull. As I said I am patient but do not have the years on my side and really miss driving the o’i girl. Regards Mick Willis. Chard Somerset.
Not overhauling any gearboxes then I take it? Just had a lady who needs one done and was going to recommend you.

Hi there, any ideas on when you might be taking on further work?
I’m after a rebuild on my 5speed t25 box. It’s not gone bang, runs smoothly but has major leaks and sporadic selector issues.
It’s running with a aaz td engine so I’d be after a change of gear ratios as well if poss.
Hoping to get back on the road for the spring, can have box ready to ship in a couple weeks.
Cheers, Dave

Hola, puedes ver un par de videos del estado de mi caja de cambios?es un minuto.
Gracias
Hi Im currently bidding on a van on eBay that has no gearbox, the owner says that he sent it to you 4 years ago, If you still have it I would be willing to pay for its refurb and have higher ratio gears put in, I have another synchro that I have just fitted a 3.2 V6 engine in, out of the mk5 golf and I will need the higher gear ratio fitting to this,
If you could just confirm that you are happy to do this I will pay any outstanding monies that might be owed on it.
Thanks lee
Hi there, could you recommend any one to overall and upgrade my final drive on my 5 speed T25 gearbox . I live in the derby area.
Thanks pete.
Looking to buy a 5 speed gearbox for VW 1.6 diesel T25 1987
ANY CONTACTS?
Hello Aidan,
I’m in the states and am undergoing a trans rebuild for my Syncro. I have a turbo ABA similar to the AGG. I am thinking about converting to a TDI PD. Do you see more wear on gearboxes from a Tdi vs. a Gas engine?
At this point I’m searching the globe for information. Most drivers are either embarrassed or…. But most builders here say that a Tdi can be very distructive to the gearbox. What are your thoughts?
Hi Aiden hope you are enjoying your break. Can you recommend anyone else for the job.cheers.
Hi Aidan,
Just wondering if you are accepting any new work. I spoke to you about 2 years ago about a t3 syncro 16 gearbox build.
If you could let me know..
Many thanks

whwn are you ging o accept new projects again?
when are you going to accept new projects again?
Hello Aiding,
I have a 1990 5 Speed T3 Gearbox, that you can have for free. I’ve had it lying around for 3 years, and could do to get rid of it. I had to take it out of my transporter, because it had wear at the front. Due to wear the gear cog wore a small hole into the case. It did not run out of oil, as I sealed the hole with sealer, until I got a replacement gearbox. If you send me your email address then I can send you photos. Maybe some of the parts are still okay for you to use on your projects. Regards. Erwin.
HI Aidan,
I hope you are well and have managed to get a holiday? Word on the forum is you now have an apprentice and may be able to take on new works? After a 2000k round the highlands I now have a noisy differential. its been on the back of my mind for a while now and I have been keeping an eye on your site for a while now as I have been aware of the noise but its now at the stage where above 50KPH we can not talk to each other so I need to get it done and I would really like you to be the man to do it.
Can you help?
Cheers
Hello Aidan
Let me know when you’re ready to take orders again.
I hope everything is all right.

Hi Aidan,
I’m hoping you’ve taken your well deserved holiday and can advise me. My name is Yan and I’m based in Barcelona, I’ve had my 1.6l td campervan for 13 years and have slowly replaced most parts, new clutch and vc most recently, as i was planning a 4 week road trip in August.
Last week the gearbox failed badly, the casing is cracked and there’s a lot of broken metal pieces everywhere.
It’s an AVK gearbox and i’ve had no luck locating a replacement. Would you have a replacement or know where i could find?
Many Thanks,
Yan
Hi Aidan,
Just thought of you whilst working on my westy and hope you are well and enjoying summer .
